Most people assume that every Mustang they see out on the road is the creation of Ford.
Surprisingly enough, that isn’t the case at all. Introducing the Saleen Mustang.
A History of Saleen and their Mustang
Ford enlisted Saleen Automotive, an autosport company based in Corona, CA, to design a modified Ford Mustang in the mid-1980s. The first one was released in 1985. While Saleen still produces Mustangs today under the S302 name, the true Saleen Mustangs were only made in the 1980s and 1990s.
The Power and Design of the Saleen Mustang
Saleen’s Mustangs were essentially replicas of the late Ford Mustangs that utilized fox body platforms, though they were injected with 351w engines for high-performance power.
A Brief Timeline of the Saleen Mustang
In 1985, Saleen used the very first certified centrifugal supercharger on a Mustang and race-prepped it for Sports Car Club of America. By 1994, the fourth generation Mustang rolled around and Saleen replaced the engine with a 5.8L V-8, S351 suspension, and a number of other upgrades.
The Saleen Mustang in the News
In recent Saleen news, the company just unveiled a prototype for a brand new Saleen Mustang for their 35th anniversary. Check out this 780 horsepower beast below!
Celebrity Endorsements of the Saleen Mustang
If there is one Mustang to rule them all, it is the Saleen Mustang. If there is one action star to rule them all, it is Tom Cruise. It is no wonder why these two make such a great couple!
Best Saleen Mustang Groups
While there are no large Saleen Mustang groups, there is the Saleen Club of America, which gives Saleen owners and enthusiasts access to events and insider information.
The Saleen Mustang – a Triumph in High-Performance
If the Mustang engine wasn’t already powerful enough, Saleen was there to make it more powerful. We can only hope that the same stays true for the future Mustangs of this high-performance company!
